It allows the adult/caregiver to reflect back the emotions of the child and to share their own (ask, describe, show and tell)
When do I use it?
When you want to have a focused conversation about emotions and understanding facial expressions
As a research tool, it helps to gain an understanding of the general state of the child and adult/caregiver
How do I use it?
Ask or help children identify which three emojis they are feeling
Ask what happened in the child’s day
The adult/caregiver also participates by choosing three emojis and reflecting on their day
Tips and Tricks
Remember that there is no one way to complete the Emoji Wheel. It needs to be tailored to the child’s emotional state in the moment
